2010 Young Writers' Workshops.
Keen young writers flocked to the July school holiday workshops held in the Tauranga and Papamoa libraries.
In the morning workshops, Angie Belcher inspired primary school writers at Papamoa Library while Jean Bennett sparked the imagination of young writers at the Tauranga Library. “Some wonderful poems, characters, and stories took shape during the workshops,” Jean said.
In the afternoon, Susan Brocker encouraged college students to explore their creativity. Susan was pleased to have a good number of boys attend her workshop.
All three tutors are Bookrapt authors.
Tauranga librarians were wonderful hosts. They welcomed the students, made them comfortable, and provided stationery and treats. Thank you for your hospitality!

Once again the workshops were a hit with young writers. Organised by Amanda McFadden, teenage services librarian, three workshops were held in Tauranga and Papamoa Libraries. The librarians in both venues ensured a friendly atmosphere for the young writers, including treats to get the tastebuds and creative juices flowing.
Bookrapt tutors Angie Belcher and Jean Bennett appreciated the fantastic support from the librarians. "The welcoming environment set the scene for productive sessions. The young writers were buzzing with excitement."
Some of the feedback from young writers:
- I think it was fun and useful to learn about writing. I liked it a lot, it was great/ fantstick!
- I loved it and I learnt some more about poetry and writing stories
- Yes it was great- the author was clear and straight with her instructions. I would definitely go again.
- I really enjoyed it and I think that you should do it more often

This year the workshops were organised by Amanada McFadden and Claire Cooper, children's and teenage services librarians. Thank you Amanda and Claire for your hard work and to the other librarians who helped make the workshops a great success. Three morning sessions were held in Tauranga and Papamoa Libraries.
Bookrapt tutors Angie Belcher and Jean Bennett were delighted with the response from the budding writers. The young people were given VIP status and enjoyed developing their creative ideas. They made the most of their time and wrote up a storm.
"It's wonderful to see so many young people passionate about reading and writing," said Jean. "I was amazed at the imaginative writing they produced." |
