Writing is one way of achieving this. Her first published article was about ship-building in the Central African bush, where she lived for five years. She has written press and radio advertising for the Barbados Tourist Board and a variety of companies, as well as having columns and articles published in newpspapers and magazines in Barbados, Scotland, and the United Arab Emirates. She achieved prizes for fiction writing, poetry, and articles within the Scottish Association of Writers. In the Western District Short Story Competition (Auckland) in 2001 she achieved second prize, and had three other stories highly commended. Ehteljoy has had work published in Stories for Kiwi Kidz in 1999, 2000, and 2001, and is a contributor to The Bay of Plenty Times holiday pages. The Three Boxes aired on Radio New Zealand in 2000. Etheljoy has had adult fiction, poetry, articles, and children's stories published in several other New Zealand books, including two Shortland Publications, Another Point of VIew (1999) and The Rhyming Princess (2003) - a 24 page illustrated book. Etheljoy is currently working on a children's novel. |
